2020 summer highlights

While 2020 was nothing like we expected, we did appreciate some of the unexpected moments that came with it. Like most wedding vendors, 2020 was poised to be our best year ever. Unfortunately, it was the exact opposite. We were devastated as we watched couples postpone their weddings and large receptions as the COVID-19 case numbers spiked. It was a really rough year.

However, in the midst of all that chaos and uncertainty, we were lucky to be a part of some beautiful, intimate, and truly special moments and we wanted to share a few of them with you! We are so grateful to have been a part of some beautiful moments and to have met some incredible couples that we otherwise might not have.

Here’s a look back at some of our favorite days from the summer of 2020!

PAM AND JOE

This elegant, sweet elopement has a special place in our hearts. This was our first day back with couples since the shutdown in March. Pam and Joe were originally planning to have a gorgeous wedding in Europe. Due to the shutdown and travel restrictions, they realized they wouldn’t be able to fly to Europe so they decided to elope in Asheville! After doing some research, they found that Homewood would be the perfect fit for their elegant elopement. They were surrounded by their closest family members as they exchanged vows and promised to love each other forever. Their ceremony took place in the Great Room of Homewood in front of the beautifully decorated original fireplace. It was such a romantic wedding! We would never have met this sweet couple had it not been for the pandemic and we will always be grateful for being able to be a part of their amazing July wedding! Congratulations to these loving and joyful newlyweds!

HANNAH AND CAMERON

This sweet couple hosted a vibrant and colorful summer wedding for their close friends and family at Homewood. The cheerful and bright colors were exactly what we needed to help us get in the swing of summer. Hannah and Cameron wanted a fun, vibrant wedding day and we gave them just that! We used the best summer blooms and put together some creative floral arrangements for their special day! One of our favorite little details from this day included the custom hankerchiefs for Hannah and Cameron’s mothers that said “keep your shit together.” After the tough year, watching these two lovebirds get married was definitely going to make people a bit emotional. We love these little light hearted but meaningful touches on wedding days! We also really enjoyed the amazing photos of the newlyweds around the grounds of Homewood. We’ve shared even more photos and details from this beautiful wedding day on our blog!

JENN AND BOBBY

Jenn and Bobby’s all outdoor, summer wedding is definitely one we’ll remember forever! These adventurous souls were originally planning a large wedding and reception in the mountains of Colorado until COVID-19 forced them to rearrange their plans. They decided they still wanted to host a mountain wedding and found the most gorgeous private mountain property in Asheville owned by Bobby’s parents lifelong friends! We turned this amazing, blank canvas of a space into the most romantic and perfect setting for Jenn and Bobby’s wedding! While we thought of all the details, the unexpected weather changed our plans.. a few times. Still, their adventurous and loving spirits kept Jenn and Bobby going and they made their wedding day their own despite the unexpected events of the day! You can read more about their adventure wedding on our blog. Even with the last minute changes and flexible planning, it was all worth it to watch this amazing couple say their I Do’s and share the moment with their closest friends and family members while the sun set over the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a moment that everyone will cherish forever!

JOLIE AND SEAN

We started planning Jolie and Sean’s spring wedding at the start of 2020! We planned a fun, memorable destination weekend for all of their friends and family at the amazing 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa. (Fun fact - did you know that Lake Lure was one of the sites used for the iconic film Dirty Dancing? They even have a Dirty Dancing themed festival in Lake Lure every year!). Jolie and Sean were planning their wedding with us virtually from New York. As the COVID cases spiked, we started the tough conversation of postponement. We ended up postponing the wedding to the late summer of 2020 and decided to work on planning an intimate, outdoor wedding to give their guests a great experience while keeping their safety in mind. We really loved seeing the happiness between Jolie and Sean as they kicked off their wedding weekend at Lake Lure! Anyone could see that they were truly in love and we loved being present for their special day. They hosted a gorgeous lake side ceremony followed by a romantic outdoor reception surrounding 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa’s beautiful pool. It was beautiful to see Jolie and Sean surrounded by their wonderful friends and family as they celebrated their love for each other - It really was the time of their lives! See what we did there? ;)

DANIELLE AND ADAM

We will always hold this wedding extra close to our hearts. Danielle is a nurse who volunteered to travel to NYC during the height of the pandemic there to help with the staffing shortages. She is truly a front line worker and we are forever grateful for her self sacrifice when our country needed it most. It was so important to us that Danielle and Adam had the absolute best day possible (who could deserve it more?!) while keeping COVID restrictions in mind. Their rustic, intimate wedding at Memory Mountain was the perfect wedding. We normally tear up a time or two at each wedding but this one felt a bit more personal. Our last wedding before the pandemic restrictions were set in place (back in March) took place at this wonderful venue so it was really special to come back and plan another great wedding for someone so closely impacted by the virus! One of the best aspects of Memory Mountain is the onsite lodging - Danielle and Adam were able to host all of their guests in the many cabins located on property and there was even room for their sweet pups! We designed a romantic and elegant wedding day for this amazing couple starting with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and an intimate, romantic reception in the beautifully decorated barn.

CHEERFUL, VIBRANT SUMMER STYLED SHOOT
AT THE PIERMONT COTTAGE OF THE OLD EDWARDS INN AND SPA

After months of postponing weddings and feeling blue, we decided to plan a fun, vibrant, cheerful summer shoot with some of our favorite vendor friends to bring some joy into our lives! We wanted to use rich, bright colors to represent a lively, summer mood. We specifically focused on yellows with pops of other picturesque summer colors and dusty blue accents as that felt the most enjoyable color scheme! We also wanted the shoot to represent a bright and happy occasion in an intimate setting. The Piermont Cottage was the perfect blank canvas for our vendor team to bring our setups and vision to life, which included a custom built ceremony arbor, an elegant sweetheart table, a fun lounge featuring a unique neon sign, a vibrant, modern guest table and two cake displays that embraced the main colors of our shoot: yellow and dusty blue!
Some of our favorite touches include the beautiful tablescapes and centerpieces featuring rich, colorful taper candles and fresh summer berries and fruits, the one-of-a-kind, vintage pieces used for the place settings, the gorgeous, summery/warm lounge setup which was perfectly finished with hanging floral and ribbons and a one of a kind neon sign, the custom handwritten invitation suite on handmade cotton paper, and the fresh flower acrylic menus that doubled as unique place cards! We hope this inspirational styled shoot brings you as much joy and cheer as it brought us while planning and executing it.
